Dr. Paul McGovern believes in the power of choral singing to bring diverse people together. He has been a community chorus member throughout his career. As an undergraduate at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Paul sang in the Queens College Choral Society that gave yearly performances of Handel’s Messiah. While teaching music in the public schools in the Philadelphia area, Paul sang with Singing City and directed a re-formed community chorus in southern New Jersey. While a graduate student at Indiana University, Paul directed a chamber chorus that performed thematic programs integrating music with other arts. He currently sings in the Choral Arts Society’s chamber choir, the Camerata, under the direction of Robert Russell.

Paul is in his fourth year as Director of Music at St. Joseph’s College where he supervises music activities on campus, conducts the Concert Choir, and teaches music courses. Paul has previously taught at the Crane School of Music at SUNY-Potsdam and Georgia Southern University, as well as in public schools in the Philadelphia, PA area. He has extensive choral conducting experience directing choirs of all sizes and has conducted several choral masterworks such as Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Paul received his Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Indiana University.
