A Word from the Director
Fall 2011
Those of you who know me know that I believe there is magic in singing. I hope that you have experienced that magic either through listening from the audience or from actively creating music from the stage. If you haven’t done either, I warmly welcome you to stop by and listen to a rehearsal or consider coming to one of Granite State Choral Society’s concerts this December. If you have been listening for a while, then I encourage you to come to a rehearsal and join GSCS in song. Music its self is magical but so is the experience of joining together with others to create something. The experience will lift your spirits. Come join us.
This season’s concert line up is an exciting and challenging program. The bulk of the repetoire will be J.S. Bach’s Magnificat. What is exciting for me is that we will not be performing the version in D Major which is most widely know but rather we will be preparing the original version in Eb Major. This is the true holiday version that is longer and with decidedly different orchestration than its D Major counterpart. The program will also contain some favorites from Rutter, Handel and even a selection for the child in all of us from Polar Express. There is something for everyone.
Large programs require a wealth of effort not just from the stage but from behind the scenes as well. This will be one of GSCS larger programs in the recent past and we encourage you to become involved in a great organization. While we would love to have you joining us on the stage, we appreciate all help both on and off the stage. Be a part of a Granite State Choral Society -- music can change your life in many ways.
Stay tuned,
Seth A. Hurd, Music Director
