The chorus has shared its joy of singing and love of music with friends and neighbors. GSCS celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Often, proceeds from the annual concerts have been presented to area organizations. Generous volunteers in the community continue to promote the appreciation of the choral and musical arts. Music from various time periods and cultures has been sung by the chorus, including Broadway tunes, folk songs from around the world, and many classical works.

A Word from the Director seth_hurd

Fall 2010

There is magic about singing.  It doesn’t matter how you experience it, whether you are sitting back and hearing the voices and the melodies wash over you from where you are sitting or whether you are actively engaging in creating a symphony of song with your own voice -- there is real magic about singing.

For me, I love choral music because it relaxes me.  A particularly difficult day may darken the sky above just a bit, but going to a choral rehearsal always parts the clouds for me.  I love to sing and singing creates a real balance for me.  I spend my life (as many people do) in an active business and I need to keep up with the many demands that arrive on my desk.  Thank goodness for song, because music offsets those sometimes stressful encounters in our every day life.  I wish I could spend each and every day singing at the top of my lungs.  Even if there isn’t a song coming from my voice, there is always a song in my head and in my heart at all times.

Maybe that’s your experience too.   If it is, I hope you are looking forward to singing with the Granite State Choral Society this Fall.   Maybe you have never had a chance to sing the Choral Society or maybe you have never have a chance to sing with an chorus before.  If not, consider trying a rehearsal or two with GCSC.  Who knows what might appeal to you, maybe a traditional tune like Carol of the Bells or maybe a more classical selection like Ave Maria.  Perhaps you are looking forward to singing an old faithful carol like Joy to the World or maybe you can’t wait to join the annual presentation of a chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

Come sing with Granite State Choral Society this season.  I promise that you will leave with a song.

Stay tuned,
